Since 1973, the vision of Gregory Newham has been focused on creating distinctive, high-quality handwoven textiles to custom order for architects and interior designers. The standard has always been the refinement of technique over cost-consciousness, and a collection of textile designs has evolved that melds a refined color palette with sturdy, meticulous execution. Today, Gregory Newham Limited is one of the few American workrooms creating flatwoven area rugs to custom order for residential interiors.

The workroom is located in a former brick church in the historic city of Kingston, New York. A variety of hand looms produce rugs, upholstery fabric and decorative throws. In the on-premesis dye room we create custom colorings and limited-quantity dyelots (larger lot solid yarns are produced by a commercial dyehouse). Gregory Newham has been hand dyeing yarns for over thirty years and expertly crafts space-dyed effects which figure prominently in many of the textiles offered.

The interaction of weave structure with a clean, simple pattern, natural fibers, and custom coloring creates a textile that provides a ground to compliment a room’s architecture, furnishings, and fabrics. Our large area rugs are constructed in matched panels, assembled with subtle hand seaming, and finished with woven, hand-sewn bindings. Building on the time-honored traditions of flatwoven rugs, Gregory Newham Limited challenges the idiosyncracies of the technique to provide the client with an exceptionally handmade textile.
